Social factors related to health and physical and mental illness will be discussed, including comparative examinations of the healing process. The social organization of systems of health care will be explored, including recruitment and socialization of health care personnel, hospitals as social institutions, stratification in medicine, emergence of professional medicine and alternatives to it and development of the health promotion perspective. Course credit exclusion: GL/SOCI 3230 6.00.
