The cinema, arguably the most significant cultural medium of mass communication of the 20th century, reflects and interprets urban experience, contributing to perceptions of the real city through the popular imagination. The theoretical underpinnings of the course are located in Benjamin's and Baudrillard's ideas regarding the significance of the cinema in relation to urban life; selected films illustrate their contentions.Course credit exclusion: AP/COMN 4321 3.00 (prior to Fall 2012). This course was previously offered as AP/COMN 4721 3.00. Open to: fourth-year Communication Studies majors only.
