The overall aim of the course is to develop a critical understanding of genocide and to develop the student's ability to analyze genocide in both historical and contemporary contexts. The course will examine the causes and consequences of genocide. Genocides studied include Indigenous, Armenian, the Holocaust, Cambodian, Rwandan, former Yugoslavian, and others. Students will investigate the terms genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes and explore them through the lens of human rights and equity.Course credit exclusion: Prior to Fall 2019: HREQ/SOCI 4020 6.00Prerequisites: 78 credits, or permission of the Undergraduate Program Director.
