Description: This course explores issues involving the social and cultural impact of language; gives students the conceptual tools to analyze the relationship between linguistic rights and human rights; and discusses topics such as language and identity, ethnolinguistic nationalism, and the emergence of new languages.

No examinations or tests collectively worth more than 20% of the final grade in a course will be given during the final 14 calendar days of classes in a term.
