Calendar Description / Prerequisite / Co-Requisite

Provides an overview of the history, linguistic structure, and sociolinguistics of English as spoken in Canada. Topics include: the roots of Canadian English; phonetic and grammatical characteristics; differences from other Englishes; regional variation; and issues in current sociolinguistics variation and change, with specific focus on Toronto. Prerequisites: AP/LING 2120 3.00, AP/LING 2130 3.00, AP/LING 2140 3.00, and six credits in AP/LING at the 3000-level, all with grades of C+ or higher. Course credit exclusions: GL/EN 4610 3.00, GL/LIN 4610 3.00.


Course Start Up
