Explores the representation of legal issues in literature, by analyzing how authors thematize justice and injustice (social, economic, political, racial, via depictions of crime, policing, state power and individual resistance). It also explores when and why literature has become a focus of legal concern (libel, obscenity, pornography), resulting in bans, censorship, or special protection (sacred texts). Previously offered as: AP/EN 1101 3.00.
