Introductory course for English speakers who have no knowledge of Chinese. Students are expected to learn to carry on simple everyday conversations in the national language and to read and write approximately 500 Chinese characters. Pattern drills are used primarily in addition to grammatical analysis. Note: Students whose native dialect is Cantonese are directed to AP/CH 3010 6.00.

No examinations or tests collectively worth more than 20% of the final grade in a course will be given during the final 14 calendar days of classes in a term.
