This course introduces basic issues facing Indigenous peoples, in Canada and internationally. Students must engage in critical thinking about settler state colonialism at home and abroad. Topics include colonization histories, identity legislation, residential schooling, child welfare, criminal justice, and self-determination. Course credit exclusions: AP/REI 1050 6.00 (prior to Fall 2013), AP/REI 2050 6.00 (prior to Fall 2012). Previously offered as AP/MIST 1050 6.00
